Physical Examinations

Cats are experts at hiding illness, often until the disease or illness is advanced. That’s why annual exams are critical for all cats, and senior or high-risk patients benefit from biannual exams. At each visit, our veterinarians perform a full physical exam, review your cat’s medical history, recommend appropriate tests, and discuss preventive care to protect long-term health.

Oral Health Care

Dental disease is the most common health issue in cats — by age three, most cats already have gingivitis or periodontal disease. Up to 25% also develop painful resorptive lesions below the gumline, which owners may not recognize because cats instinctively hide discomfort.

We include an oral health exam at every visit and may recommend professional cleaning or treatment. Our team will also teach you how to care for your cat’s teeth at home using safe, effective methods and products. Healthy teeth and gums not only extend your cat’s life but also give them fresher breath.

Intestinal Parasite Control

Roundworms, hookworms, and tapeworms can make cats sick — and some can even infect people. We test for parasites regularly and prescribe safe, effective treatments to eliminate and prevent reinfection. Outdoor cats are at higher risk and are treated annually. We now offer a topical dewormer, eliminating the need for bitter pills.

Feline Leukemia and Immunodeficiency Testing

We routinely test all kittens and newly adopted cats for feline leukemia (FeLV) and feline immunodeficiency virus (FIV). Outdoor cats are at higher risk, so FeLV vaccination is recommended. While an FIV vaccine is not currently advised, we recommend more frequent screening for cats that fight outdoors.

Vaccinations

Vaccinations remain one of the most effective ways to prevent life-threatening diseases. We follow the American Association of Feline Practitioners (AAFP) guidelines and use only non-adjuvanted Purevax and Continuum vaccines, which have not been associated with vaccine-related tumors (fibrosarcomas).

Healthy adult cats typically receive vaccinations for feline panleukopenia and respiratory viruses every three years. In certain cases, antibody titers may be used to measure protection and avoid unnecessary vaccination.

Heartworm Disease Prevention

Unlike in dogs, feline heartworm disease is extremely difficult to detect, nearly impossible to treat safely, and often fatal. Even a single worm can cause severe illness — or sudden death. Because symptoms vary (from coughing and vomiting to no symptoms at all), prevention is critical.

We recommend safe, monthly heartworm prevention. Our topical product also protects against fleas, intestinal parasites, and ear mites — an excellent option for outdoor cats.

Early Disease Detection

As cats age, early detection of metabolic changes in the kidneys, liver, and thyroid becomes essential. We recommend annual screening bloodwork, urinalysis, and diagnostic imaging for senior cats. These proactive steps help us detect illness before symptoms appear, allowing us to slow or manage progression effectively.

Permanent Identification

Microchipping is a safe, permanent form of identification that greatly increases the chance of being reunited if your cat is lost or stolen. We can implant a microchip during a routine visit or while your cat is under anesthesia for another procedure.

Individualized Flea & Tick Control

Nutrition & Weight Management

Proper nutrition is vital to maintaining health at every stage of life. Our veterinarians provide individualized diet and weight assessments, with recommendations tailored to growth, maintenance, and specific health conditions.

Behavioral Counseling

Unwanted behaviors such as inappropriate urination, scratching, or aggression may indicate an underlying medical or behavioral issue. We work with families to address these concerns and restore harmony at home.

Pain Management

Pain can result from injury, surgery, or chronic conditions like arthritis. Because cats often hide pain, subtle signs may be the only clue. During exams, we assess for pain using the Colorado Pain Scale and provide individualized treatment, ranging from supplements and medications to physical therapy. Your cat’s comfort and quality of life are always our top priority.

Lifelong Wellness for Cats

From preventive vaccines and parasite control to advanced pain management and senior screenings, our feline wellness program is designed to support every stage of your cat’s life. With regular care and early detection, we can help ensure your cat enjoys many healthy, happy years by your side.
