Meet Our Veterinary Care Team
Our Veterinary Care team is made up of experienced veterinary technicians—many of whom are certified or licensed—as well as dedicated veterinary assistants, receptionists, and kennel attendants, all of whom play essential roles in delivering quality patient care, supporting treatments, and educating clients.

Dr. Laura Carey
Veterinarian
Dr. Carey is a Connecticut native who grew up on a small farm in Watertown, CT, raising sheep and Angus beef cattle. She graduated cum laude from the University of Connecticut with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Animal Science. She completed her veterinary degree at the University of Wisconsin School of Veterinary Medicine, where she graduated with honors and was elected into the Phi Zeta Honor Society of Veterinary Medicine. After graduating, Dr. Carey returned to Connecticut and practiced at the Cheshire Veterinary Hospital. In 1994, she purchased the Litchfield Veterinary Hospital from Dr. Edward Wallace and has enjoyed practicing veterinary medicine and surgery in the beautiful town of Litchfield.
Dr. Carey is a past president of the Connecticut Veterinary Medical Association, a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association, and the Litchfield County Veterinary Medical Association. Dr. Carey is a Fear Free Certified Professional and a member of the American Association of Feline Practitioners.
Dr. Carey enjoys all aspects of general practice, with a strong interest in ultrasonography, dermatology, internal medicine, and soft tissue surgery.
Dr. Rachel Ammirata
Veterinarian
Dr. Ammirata was born and raised in Litchfield County. At a very young age, she realized her passion for veterinary medicine through caring for her family’s pets, including dogs, cats, horses, and various reptiles. She attended Western Ct. State University for her Bachelor’s Degree. She received her Master of Animal Science degree from North Carolina State University and pursued her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine at Kansas State University. While studying there, she was inducted into the veterinary honor society Phi Zeta and received a scholarship for compassion during her clinical year. Dr. Ammirata developed a strong interest in soft tissue medicine and chronic pain management. Her interests also include palliative care, maintaining comfort and quality of life in sick or geriatric patients. Dr. Ammirata started her position at Litchfield Veterinary Hospital in June 2016.
Outside of Litchfield Veterinary Hospital, Dr. Ammirata, affectionately known as Dr. “A,” loves spending time with her husband and children. She also enjoys going on adventures with her menagerie of dogs, including her Australian Shepard, two Labradors, and a Jack Russel.
Dr. Paige Trusock
Medical Director
Dr. Trusock is a Connecticut native who grew up in Bethel, CT. She graduated Cum Laude with a Degree in Biomedical Sciences from the University of New Hampshire and is a Magna Cum Laude Honors graduate of The Ohio State University College of Veterinary Medicine. While in school, Dr. Trusock participated in a special clinical track that prepared her for general practice. During her clinical track, Dr. Trusock was able to shadow at numerous small animal clinics and outreach programs, which strengthened her small animal experience and surgical skills. In addition, she performed elective neuter and spay surgery at a pit bull rescue in Ohio. She has a strong interest in surgery, internal medicine, and neurology. She is a Fear Free certified professional and is committed to providing care in a fear-free, low-stress handling manner.
Outside of work, Dr. Trusock enjoys spending time with her fiancé and “fur kids”. She has a Staffordshire Terrier named Khan and a domestic shorthair cat, Bagheera. Dr. Trusock also enjoys reading, weight lifting, and taking her dog swimming.
Dr. Calvin Marlor
Veterinarian
Dr. Marlor is originally from Manchester, England, where he began working in the veterinary field in 2009. A love of small animal sciences propelled him to attend the Royal Veterinary College in London. He moved to the USA in 2021, where he began working in New Jersey as a small animal practitioner. Dr. Marlor is passionate and excited by the opportunity to educate clients about their pet’s health and well-being, striving to make a difference in the lives of his patients. His special interest includes the fields of cardiothoracic medicine, internal medicine, and dermatology. On his days off, you can find him playing golf or football (AKA soccer), cheering for Manchester United, or at home with his wife and their rescue cat, Noodle.
Dr. Jen Jones
Veterinarian
Dr. Jen Jones grew up in Hershey, PA, and aspired to become a veterinarian from a very young age as she cared for all the animals in her life. She spent her free time during high school and college working in small animal hospitals and at a nearby thoroughbred racetrack. This fueled her interest in sports medicine and in the overall well-being of animals.
She completed her undergraduate degree at the University of Vermont, studying both in Burlington, VT, and Christchurch, New Zealand. She graduated Summa Cum Laude with a Bachelor’s degree in Animal Science. She then attended Colorado State University College of Veterinary Medicine and earned her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree, graduating Magna Cum Laude.
For six years after graduating, Dr. Jen enjoyed being an equine veterinarian in the Hudson Valley as an associate at Rhinebeck Equine. She then made the transition to small animal practice and joined Sand Road Animal Hospital in 2006. She enjoys all facets of general practice, including dentistry, ultrasonography, and surgery, and she provided compassionate veterinary care to animals in the NW Corner of CT for 18 years.
Dr. Jen spends her time outside of work with her two daughters, her cat Ivy, and her sweet black lab named Poppy. You may also find her swing dancing, telemark skiing, hiking, or chasing down a sunset view in the beautiful NW corner of CT.
Dr. Damiana Gumiran
Veterinarian
From a young age, Dr. Damiana Gumiran dreamed of becoming a veterinarian, fueled by her deep love for animals and a strong passion for medicine. She earned her veterinary degree in St. Kitts, where she developed a special interest in internal medicine and surgery. During her studies, she also devoted time to volunteering with a student-run rescue group, which sparked a lasting commitment to caring for shelter pets.
Outside of the clinic, Dr. Gumiran enjoys spending time outdoors with her dog, Sally. Whether it’s a day at the beach, a camping trip, or a casual walk, they’re always up for an adventure. She also loves hosting game nights and movie nights with family and friends.
Peter Sepelak
Hospital Director
Peter joined Litchfield Veterinary Hospital in 2017 as the Practice Manager. He attended Sacred Heart University and was a 2013 Graduate of the Connecticut School of Finance and Management. With over 20 years of experience, he is committed to overseeing and guiding a team dedicated to fulfilling Litchfield Veterinary Hospital’s Mission and living its Core Values, practicing exceptional medicine and surgery tailored to our patients’ needs in a fear-free environment.
Outside of the clinic, Peter cherishes time with his family and friends as well as time spent on Woodridge Lake throughout the year. Peter is a vinyl aficionado and has been collecting record albums since he was in high school.
