Endoscopy

We are proud to offer advanced minimally invasive diagnostic procedures to provide fast, accurate answers and effective treatment options for your pet. Using specialized endoscopic equipment, our veterinarians can directly visualize internal structures without the need for major surgery — helping reduce discomfort, shorten recovery time, and provide peace of mind for pet families.

How Endoscopy Works

Endoscopy uses a flexible or rigid fiber-optic camera that is inserted through a natural opening or a very small incision. The scope magnifies images up to 30 times and projects them onto a high-definition monitor, giving our doctors a clear, detailed view of your pet’s anatomy. With this technology, we can:

  • Investigate and diagnose internal conditions quickly
  • Perform targeted biopsies
  • Safely remove foreign bodies

Because the procedure is minimally invasive, pets experience less pain and typically recover much faster than with traditional surgery.

Areas We Can Examine with Endoscopic Equipment

  • Nose (Rhinoscopy)
  • Ear Canals (Otoscopy)
  • Esophagus
  • Stomach & Gastrointestinal Tract
  • Small Intestine
  • Colon & Rectum (Colonoscopy)
  • Vaginal Tract

Why We May Recommend Endoscopy

Our veterinarians may suggest a minimally invasive exam if your pet is experiencing:

  • Chronic coughing or persistent sneezing
  • Chronic vomiting or diarrhea
  • Chronic ear infections
  • Nosebleeds (epistaxis)
  • Unexplained weight loss
  • Rectal or colonic bleeding
  • Inconclusive results from prior diagnostics
  • Tissue sampling needed for diagnosis

Compassionate, Cutting-Edge Care

Endoscopy allows us to diagnose and treat many conditions with greater accuracy and less stress on your pet. If your dog or cat is showing ongoing symptoms that are cause for concern, please contact Litchfield Veterinary Hospital to discuss whether a minimally invasive procedure may be the right option for your pet.
