Dr. Jeannie Stuart

Dr. Stuart grew up in Coventry, Connecticut. She was raised with dogs, had a fondness for the neighborhood stray cats, and developed a love of horses she never outgrew. She spent several of her childhood summers attending equestrian camps and much of her time after school working and riding at nearby stables. As the daughter of two teachers, her education was always a top priority and not surprisingly, she went on to become a veterinarian. She graduated Cum Laude from Mount Holyoke College with a bachelor’s degree majoring in biology and minoring in psychology, and then earned her Doctor of Veterinary of Medicine from Tufts University.

Dr. Stuart has been a practicing veterinarian in Connecticut for the last 20 years. She enjoys attending continuing education lectures and seminars. She has volunteered at town-run vaccine clinics and charity spay/neuter events. Her areas of interests include internal medicine and gastroenterology as well as soft tissue surgery and dentistry.
More than a decade ago, she decided to make Litchfield County her home. She bought a small house with some raw land with the goal of turning her modest acreage into a small horse farm. Always a work in progress, much time and effort continues to go into maintenance and projects. She cares for her two horses on the property. Dune is an aged Quarter Horse who was rescued and adopted as a companion for her horses over the last 10 years. Ginger is a recently adopted palomino Tennessee Walking horse.

Dr. Stuart’s four- legged family members include Barley, a young and outgoing black male German Shephard. Three rescue cats also found her place to call home. B.J. is a black domestic short hair cat, now in his senior years. He had a significant upper respiratory infection as a kitten. She brought him home to nurse him back to health and decided to keep him. Sushi is a sweet calico domestic short hair cat who was brought into the clinic where she was working as part of a trap and release rescue effort. With a chronic eye issue, Sushi needed a special home and easily acclimated to life in the household. Minnie is a domestic short hair that appeared on the property as an adolescent. Not long later, she had a litter of five beautiful and healthy kittens. Initially skittish, she was easily won over and now is the sweetest, most loving housecat.

To relax, Dr. Stuart enjoys hiking with her dog, riding horseback on the local trails, and reading in her hammock. She enjoys gardening, landscaping and projects around the house and farm. She also loves swimming and watersports on the rare occasions she gets an opportunity for a vacation getaway.
